Below are some first-hand stories from individuals who received grants.
"I am helping my daughter raise my five grandchildren and I am the only source of income for my family. We were evacuated from our home due to a large wildfire that was sweeping through our area. We were unable to take any of our belongings and I had no money for the hotel, food, diapers, clothing or medication, as three of the seven of us were also suffering with the flu at the same time. This grant has helped us to recover financially from this traumatic event, which in turn, allows us to focus on our emotional recovery! This grant has been a tremendous and much needed avenue for recovery! I know that your support will provide the same very real, very tangible relief from life's traumatic events. We are so very grateful for this support. It allows us a chance to stay together as a family. That is an enormous gift!
The relief that my family has experienced during a very difficult period in our lives has only been possible because of the generosity of those who contributed to this grant. What a major impact these people have had in making our struggles easier to bear. My most heartfelt thanks go out to your organization and to the people who contribute. What a difference you have made in our lives!"

"The wildfires raged through our town and was frightfully close to our home. Due to my wife and I being forced to evacuate for two weeks, both without work and with a family of five, this grant gave us assistance as well as peace of mind. We were fortunate enough to return but due to the displacement, experienced a bit of hardship financially. The donations gave us assistance to catch up and helped our family feel more secure.
I am beyond appreciative of this grant, even the consideration for our request. It was a scary and stressful time and it was hard to focus. This grant gave me extra hope and the most that could happen is that I could have been rejected yet they considered my application and assisted quickly. I can’t express enough gratitude from anyone who has donated to this fund. Complete strangers have made my family able to relax a bit while we try to return to normal after the fear of a wildfire destroying our home."

"The wildfire evacuation left me in a spot where I quickly became unemployed, and did not have the financial income to cover expenses. I am a student and commute very day to school, which is very expensive. Working and making money in the summer is how I cover these expenses, so without employment I was/am experiencing financial difficulties. It helps to cover basic expenses. It has helped to fill the void of the unemployment that was caused by the wildfires. Thank you very much. The wildfires changed my life, and my financial situation a lot, and I can only imagine that it was even worse for others. I have a ton of appreciation and gratitude for those who donated."
